Sew What Vermont Giveaway

Sew What Vermont is owned by the West family and operates from their home in Morrisville, VT. Mama Joan West has been sewing for most of her life. She made clothes, toys, and blankets for her daughters. She also owns a tailoring and alterations business.

Pretty Bands were created out of a need for a non-slip head band. Joan and a friend bought what they thought would be a useful headband to keep their hair back while running a marathon for their 50th birthdays, but they were disappointed with the product. Joan knew that she could make her own and make it better. Since then she has made thousands of bands, made them part of a successful business, and changed many minds about the functionality of a headband.

How cute is my niece modeling her Pretty Band?

Pretty Bands are made with high quality ribbon and are sewn well. The West family knows that the community around them is full of active people and these bands are meant to be a beautiful part of your work out or active lifestyle. They will last no matter how many miles you run or mountains you climb. Your hair will stay in place and you will be modeling a very fashionable accessory.  I suggest that you get one in every color to match every outfit!

I asked Lindsey West about custom bands and this is what she told me: We love special orders! We also do many Pretty Bands for organizations, the three in the Facebook Profile Picture were made to raise funds for Parent Project MD, which is working to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We have done school bands, bands with specially printed ribbon with business logos, race logos, etc. and again personal orders for prints/colors and sizes.

Lindsey also tells us:The business is a labor of love, sewing is something that my mom has always enjoyed and this allows her to continue to do it and meet great people as well. The team is truly a family affair. My mom Joan is the owner and mastermind, she also is the main seamstress. My sister Haleigh, who has just graduated from high school is going to college in the fall for Fashion. She works with my mom on ribbon designs and does some of the sewing as well. My father, Scott is transportation, marketing, and does a lot of the inventory and moving of products. I help out wherever I can, usually it’s ordering ribbons, cutting, pinning, and sometimes ironing.”

Also look for the West family at craft  and sporting events. This weekend they will be at the Lacrosse Tournament in Stowe. In addition to Pretty Bands the West family sells aprons, dog jackets, and more! Their Etsy shop will be up and running soon again, we will let you know when.
