OBread Giveaway

O Bread Bakery is located in a castle on Shelburne Farms. Technically the Farm Barn is not a castle, but it is a magical and special place. Chuck and Carla Conway moved their family run bakery to the farm from Waitsfield and Burlington in 1977. Now the farm is home and O Bread is a very important part of the local community and for guests traveling from afar. Chuck and Carla’s daughter Sophie works with them day in and day out at the bakery and has formally since she was 14.

O Bread was the first organic bakery in Vermont. They pride themselves on using as many local ingredients as possible including wheat, milk, buttermilk, butter, and seasonal berries.

“Our commitment to organic agricultural products was made in the very beginning, as the best way to promote sustainable farming and human durability – in personal, societal, and ecological ranges.” -O Bread’s website

As soon as we get a new loaf of bread from O Bread we start snacking. No topping necessary, just grab a slice and enjoy! This French Round had a thick and chewy crust and was light and airy on the inside. As I said the bread is perfect on its own, but we also enjoyed toasting it with a bit of garlic too.

Here is more information about O Bread’s unique bread making process: “All of our breads are made by lengthy processes, allowing the alchemy of fermentation to work its wonders of tastes, aromas, and textures. As with fine wines and cheeses, good things are worth waiting for. The skill of our bakers lies in their intuition and knowledge in interpreting the conditions on any given day.” (O Bread’s website)

Let’s talk about cookies and treats! The cookies from O Bread are around 4 inches in diameter and are not to be missed! The chocolate chip cookies are loaded with large walnut chunks and Belgian chocolate chips.  I might argue that the cinnamon raisin cookies should be renamed to “big breakfast cookie of deliciousness” as they are much, much more than just a cookie. Ingredients include Organic whole wheat pastry flour, organic rolled oats, organic raisins, molasses, Vermont honey, and organic walnuts. The ginger molasses cookies are sweet and spicy. They are packed with flavor – molasses, Vermont honey, sesame tahini,  ginger, cinnamon, organic cloves. You will be amazed by these cookies! There are two large cookies in each package which makes them perfect for sharing.

O Bread has a long list of pastries and breads. They can be found on the farm as well as at Farmer’s Markets in Stowe, Essex and Shelburne. You can also find O Bread products in stores all over Vermont.

  1. I would love to try the spelt bread! I have heard great things about it! I buy a loaf of bread and pastries every week at the farmers market in Essex but they have never had the spelt bread! Their sticky buns are out of this world!!
