Arnica pain relief products were created by Beth Gadbois who owns The Body Lounge in Stowe, VT. The Arnica line is the best seller in their Stowe store and is sold to customers worldwide.
Here is more detailed information from Beth on her products: “The formula is all natural with the main analgesic being the arnica oil that we brew from the dried flowers in organic sunflower oil. We then add nine essential oils to the mix. Those items are the base of all the formulas. From there, what is in the bottle varies. The cream has shea butter and more coconut oil in it than the lotion does. The oil is a blend of arnica infused sunflower oil, avocado and olive oil and the salts are Epsom salts, sea salts, baking soda, and the arnica oil. We are very humbled and pleased with the wonderful feedback and support we have received over the years. We have lots of fans and people who say they just couldn’t live without it, be it for their sore muscles from working out, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and a number of other pain issues. It’s always important to remember that what works for some people won’t work for others. I tend to describe the effect like that of aspirin, it is great for some people and ineffective for others”
I enlisted the help from my friend and chiropractor Dr. Heather Jerome to test these products.
“I really like the concept of the arnica products with the essential oils. I did a test after a very deep tissue massage that I knew would cause me to be sore. I put my usual traumeel on half of my body and the arnica [whipped cream] on the other side and I found that for pain relief the two worked equally as well.
I also used the lotion on my neck when it was stiff a few times and it seemed to help well with that also. The massage oil was nice – you only needed a little bit of the oil and the body butter, they did not soak into the skin quickly, so a single bottle could last a long time.
Last, I tried the bath salts and this product I actually love and I could see myself selling at the office. I advocate for epsom salt baths all the time and take one once or twice a week for my arthritis, and the scent in the salt was much more appealing when diluted with water and the idea of the arnica in the bath is fantastic. This is a product that I could really get behind.” ~Heather Jerome
Two weeks ago I strained my neck. I am not sure how but I had limited mobility and constant pain. Dr. Heather worked on my neck and sent me home with Arnica whipped cream to apply later that day. The Arnica cream felt refreshing and soothing. It was relaxing to sit with the aromatic cream working wonders on my sore neck. I was really impressed with how well the Arnia cream relieved the pain. I will keep be sure to keep these products on hand for other random sore days.
Here is another note from Beth: “I think our products lend themselves to the fan base we have because we are 1) all natural so the base lotion/oil doesn’t dry the skin out and is very moisturizing, 2) it doesn’t smell hellacious. It has a distinct mint smell, but it doesn’t last very long and is much more pleasant for the user and those around them than some of the other commercial products that can drive people out of rooms, 3) we also didn’t stop with just the arnica (and a high concentration of it as well). We added nine other essential oils that are purported to help with circulation and pain relief. 4) and hey, we’re Vermonters! Best of all reasons in my book.”
